Vietnam, like any place of war, was one horrific place...

@doc28johnson - Dude I'm not questioning your dedication to Elton John, however my research from multiple sources (NOT including Wikipedia) shows that this song was about a Vietnam vet who escapes to Spain to get away from his home town after the war and try and get his life back to normal. Does the original album the songs on (if I'm not mistaken its the "dont shoot me im only the piano player" album?) talk about the origin of the lyrics?

I think this is my favorite song by Elton. He is one of those uncommon song-writter singers that has the ability to connect to any one who will 'listen' to his music
